Graduation Day 2011

Mom and I had a conversation yesterday about mixed feelings. I was excited about summer camp, but also sad about saying goodbye to friends and teachers who won't be returning next year.

Mom said that was called mixed feelings, and we talked about it quite a lot. .Mom just started a new job and she told me she had lots of mixed feelings about it

Today was a big day for my classmates and I - we had our graduation ceremony! If you go back in the archives to Graduation Day 2010, you can see how I have grown!

Here I am, feeling proud and excited - right before we left for graduation!

We sang songs on the stage, each walked across to get our certificates - as well as a handshake and a whisper from the teachers, then watched a cool slideshow with all kinds of photos from our year.

Here I am walking across the stage. Despite a minor 'wardrobe malfunction', I managed to get across the stage, shake hands, receive my certificate and smile happily to mom and dad in the audience.

A New Chapter

Mom and I have recently started reading our first chapter book together, which is very exciting for both of us! Mom pulled out her old copy of

Charlotte's Web for us to dive into.

Mom says she read it so many times when she was younger, and also had it read to her - just like me! Mom's old copy (seen here) has been well read, well loved and chewed up a little bit by insects (bookworms?) and perhaps mice.

We read two chapters before bed, and often we can't resist reading one or two before we have to go to school in the morning. When it comes to books, Mom and I are two peas in a pod.

Workin' the Land

We have a wee plot at the not-so-new Southampton St. house;

but the small size has not stopped us from workin' the land we do have, making it both beautiful and functional.

First, the function.

In this shot you can just see the beans sprouting in our new wee veggie patch. We also have pumpkins, carrots, parsley, 2 kinds of basil, mint, dill, cilantro, oregano, garlic, chives, leeks and cucumber. Pretty good for our itty bitty lot!

This is the second season of working on our backyard garden, and we think its coming along nicely!

As you already know, we recently got a lot of dirt delivered, which we used partly to create the beginnings of a garden in front of the house.

Garden Martyrs

Mom went for a very rare manicure last week, and when she came home I decided I wanted to paint my nails, too. We didn't have much to choose from, so I picked white (used for the 'tips' on fancy french manicures). I wasn't altogether impressed with the meagre selection of nail-polish in our house, so we went out the next day and got me some sparkly polish for kids that I picked myself.

Being a young woman of style and substance, my fancy nails did not stop me from helping move the mountain of soil that arrived the day AFTER mom and I had our nails done.

Springtime at School

Something very egg-citing has been happening at school this Spring. Mrs Magee brought in 17 fertilized chicken eggs and an incubator to the classroom so we could see the chicks hatching! It took 21 days from the time she brought them in, for them to start hatching. Every morning when mom drops me off at school, we get the news report on the chicks.

Recently it was my friend Nomthi's birthday.

She got to orbit the sun 6 times!

It was also Mrs Magee's birthday and we celebrated in the courtyard.

And now we are preparing for our Graduation concert and ceremony.
